Three-Point Line Restored to 23'9"

The Rule Change

After three seasons with a shortened line, the NBA restored the three-point arc to its original distance of 23 feet 9 inches. The shortened line had been criticized for reducing the skill gap between good and average shooters.

Statistical Impact

Three-point percentages dropped back, but attempt rates stayed elevated compared to pre-1994 levels. The three-year experiment had permanently shifted offensive thinking — coaches and players had internalized the three as a core weapon.
